Award is a testament to ViSenze’s cutting-edge visual technology and innovative product.
ViSenze, a fast emerging leader in Visual Search, today announced that it has been awarded the prestigious 2014 National Infocomm Award (NIA). ViSenze is named a winner for the Category of Most Innovative Infocomm Product/Solution for its flagship product - Visual Search (ViSearch), which is evaluated based on the product’s innovativeness, use of advanced technology, ease of use, market presence, business impact and relevance to Singapore's Smart Nation vision. The biennial award, jointly organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), is Singapore's highest accolade for infocomm innovation.
Founded in August 2012 as a technology spin-off from the National University of Singapore (NUS), ViSenze develops cutting-edge visual recognition solutions to address the challenges of the visual web. ViSearch is a powerful cloud based image-to-image search platform that enables users to search for objects in images and videos by using images instead of keywords. The product addresses the fundamental problem that text-based search engines cannot solve when processing images.
“We are very proud and honoured to have won this award. We were the first in the region to pioneer and launch visual powered ecommerce applications with our ‘Reverse Image Search’ feature on both web and mobile,” said Oliver Tan, Co-founder and CEO of ViSenze. He added, “Although we originate from R&D, we remain focused on solving real-world problems through practical innovation. This means we will continue to invest heavily in our technology, talents and deliver really useful and innovative features to our customers.”
ViSearch is used widely in eCommerce, database management, and mobile applications. In online shopping, ViSearch helps retailers to create better consumer experience by letting shoppers snap or upload a picture of a product and use that to search for other similar looking products immediately. In large-scale database management, ViSearch is used for real-time and high-performance retrieval of images accurately; saving time, human effort and costs.
ViSenze counts key players like Rakuten, Zalora, Goodrich Global and Clozette amongst its international clientele today, which also include customers from China, Japan, Taiwan, India, South East Asia and North America.
“ViSenze truly espouses a blend of innovation and smart technology. Their ViSearch product is simple to understand, easy to use and delivers the results we need,” said Mr Patrick Steinbrenner, Regional Director at Zalora South East Asia.
ViSenze was founded by computer vision scientists and tech entrepreneurs with the sole objective of simplifying the visual web. Through cutting-edge R&D based on real world problems, ViSenze develops simple visual search & recognition tools to help businesses - in eCommerce, mCommerce, online display advertising, software development & database management - address challenges of exploding visual content on different digital platforms. ViSenze originates from NExT, a leading research centre jointly established between National University of Singapore (NUS) and Tsinghua University of China. The company, based in Singapore, has previously raised a series A funding round from Rakuten Ventures, Walden International and UOB Venture Management.
